The Fresno Pest Control Calendar: What to Expect Each Season

Central Valley pests run on a calendar. Here’s the Fresno pest year, season by season, and what to do before each wave — so you get ahead of it instead of reacting.

In the Central Valley, pests run on a calendar. Ants march in when the rains stop and irrigation starts; wasps build all summer; rodents push indoors as the nights cool and the harvest ends. Once you know what’s coming each season, you can get ahead of it — which is far easier than fighting an infestation that’s already established. Here’s the Fresno pest year, season by season, and what to do before each wave hits.

The short version

Spring brings ants and the first wasp nests. Summer is peak season for wasps, roaches, and mosquitoes. Fall pushes rodents indoors. Winter is the quiet stretch to seal up and plan. Get ahead of each season and you prevent the infestation instead of reacting to it.

Spring (March–May)

As the rain stops and irrigation kicks in, ants come looking for water and food — Argentine ants especially. Wasp queens start building small nests under eaves, and spiders pick up as their insect food returns. Do now: bait ant trails (don’t spray them), knock down starter wasp nests while they’re small, and seal the entry points around doors and windows before the pressure builds.

Summer (June–August)

Peak pest season. Wasps and yellowjackets grow aggressive, German roaches surge in the heat, mosquitoes breed in any standing water, and black widows are active in garages and woodpiles. Do now: dump standing water weekly, keep food sealed and counters clean, and watch the eaves and yard for growing wasp nests.

Fall (September–November)

As nights cool and the harvest ends, rodents move indoors for warmth and food — roof rats climbing into attics via citrus trees, mice slipping through tiny gaps. Yellowjackets are at their most aggressive late in the season. Do now: seal entry points before they get in, trim tree limbs back off the roof, and pick up fallen fruit.

Winter (December–February)

Activity drops, but rodents that already got inside stay, and some pests overwinter in wall voids. It’s the quiet season — and the best time for exclusion and planning. Do now: seal gaps, declutter the garage and storage, and set up protection so you’re ahead of the spring ant wave instead of behind it.

Why a calendar beats reacting

Getting ahead of each season’s pest is easier, less expensive, and a lot less stressful than fighting an infestation after it’s established. A wasp nest knocked down in spring is a five-minute job; the same nest in August is a swarm. Sealing before fall keeps rodents out entirely. Prevention timed to the season is the whole idea behind a recurring service.

The easiest way to stay ahead

A recurring home plan times treatments to the Fresno calendar — the perimeter before ant season, the exterior before wasps build, exclusion before rodents move in. It turns the whole year above into something handled for you. See our home protection plans, or start with the foundation: how to pest-proof your Fresno home.

Seasonal pest prevention FAQ

When do ants come out in Fresno?

Mostly in spring, as the rains stop and irrigation starts and they come looking for water — Argentine ants especially. Activity continues through the hot summer. Baiting early, before trails are established, is the easiest time to get ahead of them.

When are wasps worst in Fresno?

Late summer and into fall. Queens start small nests in spring, the colony grows all summer, and by August and September yellowjackets are at their largest and most aggressive. Removing nests in spring, while they’re small, is far safer.

When do rodents come inside?

Fall, mainly — as nights cool and the harvest ends, mice and roof rats move indoors for warmth and food. Sealing entry points before fall is the key to keeping them out.

What’s the best time of year for pest prevention?

Ahead of each season’s pest — bait ants in spring, manage mosquitoes and wasps in summer, seal against rodents before fall. Winter is the ideal time for exclusion and planning, since activity is low and you can get ahead of spring.

Do I need year-round pest control in Fresno?

The Central Valley’s long warm season means pests are active much of the year, so many homeowners find a recurring plan worthwhile — it times treatment to each season and prevents problems rather than reacting to them. Whether you need it depends on your home and history.
