Backyard Mosquito Treatment in Fresno That Actually Lasts

Store sprays and foggers buy you an hour. A real yard treatment targets where mosquitoes breed and rest — so you get the backyard back for the season, not the evening.

Updated June 2026 · By Paul Outfleet, Owner — licensed & insured (CA SPCB #8539)

You spray the patio, light a citronella candle, and twenty minutes later the mosquitoes are back. That is because store products only knock down the adults flying right now — they do nothing about the eggs in the saucer or the next batch resting in the shade. A professional backyard mosquito treatment works differently: it goes after where mosquitoes breed and where they rest, which is what actually keeps a Fresno yard usable through the long Central Valley season.

What you get

A treatment of the breeding water and shaded resting areas on your property, a knockdown of the adults that are already there, and a recurring schedule through the April-to-October season so each new generation hits a treated yard. We treat for both the dusk-biting native Culex and the daytime invasive Aedes ankle-biter. Call (559) 472-8200 or request a no-cost inspection.

Why store sprays and foggers disappoint

DIY mosquito products fail for a predictable reason: they treat the symptom, not the source. A hose-end spray or propane fogger drops the adults in the air at that moment, but mosquitoes breed continuously — egg to biting adult in about a week in our heat — so the yard repopulates within days. Worse, the invasive ankle-biter breeds in containers as small as a bottle cap, so a single missed plant saucer restarts the whole problem. You cannot out-spray a breeding cycle you are not interrupting.

What our yard treatment actually does

A real program attacks mosquitoes at three points at once:

1. Source reduction. We walk the property and find the standing water you are missing — saucers, gutters, low spots, that forgotten bucket behind the shed — because removing the nursery is the highest-leverage step. (See where mosquitoes lay eggs.)

2. Larvicide. For the water that cannot be drained — a water feature, chronic low spots, a catch basin — we treat it to kill larvae before they ever become biting adults.

3. Barrier treatment. We treat the shaded, humid areas where adult mosquitoes rest during the day — the underside of foliage, dense shrubs, fence lines, and the cool side of the house — so the adults that drift in have nowhere to settle.

Is it safe around dogs and kids?

Yes — when it is applied correctly. We use EPA-registered products at label rates, target the foliage and resting zones rather than play areas and surfaces, and let treated areas dry before re-entry. We will walk you through exactly what is used and the short wait time before pets and kids are back on the grass. Done right, you get the protection without dousing the yard your family uses.

The Fresno mosquito season and the recurring plan

Mosquito pressure in the Central Valley runs roughly April through October and peaks in the irrigated heat of summer. Because generations overlap continuously (see how long mosquitoes live), one treatment cannot hold the whole season. Most homeowners go on a recurring schedule — typically every few weeks during the season — so the yard stays treated as each new generation emerges. You can start any time; mid-season is fine, it just means we knock down a bigger first wave.

Prefer a hands-off system?

Some properties — large lots, frequent entertainers, chronic pressure — are a good fit for an automatic mosquito misting system that treats on a timer. We can compare that against recurring service and tell you honestly which makes sense for your yard and budget. Curious what it runs? See what mosquito control costs in Fresno.

Backyard mosquito treatment FAQ

How does professional mosquito yard treatment work?

We reduce the standing water where mosquitoes breed, apply larvicide to water that cannot be drained, and treat the shaded areas where adult mosquitoes rest during the day. Together that interrupts the breeding cycle instead of just killing the adults flying at the moment.

How long does a mosquito yard treatment last?

A treatment knocks down the current population and keeps pressure low for a few weeks. Because mosquitoes breed continuously through the season, most homeowners stay on a recurring schedule from spring through fall to keep the yard protected.

Is mosquito yard treatment safe for pets and children?

Yes, when applied correctly. We use EPA-registered products at label rates, focus on foliage and resting areas rather than play surfaces, and let treated areas dry before re-entry. We explain the short wait time at every visit.

Is it worth paying for mosquito yard spraying?

If you cannot use your yard at dusk or you are dealing with the daytime ankle-biter, professional treatment is usually worth it because it addresses the breeding source that DIY sprays miss. For a light, occasional problem, source reduction alone may be enough.

When should I start mosquito treatment in Fresno?

Early spring is ideal so you knock down the first generation before it multiplies, but you can start any time during the April-to-October season. Starting mid-summer just means a larger first treatment.

Do you treat for the ankle-biter mosquito?

Yes. The invasive Aedes ankle-biter, established across Fresno County, bites during the day and breeds in tiny containers. We inspect for and treat those container sources along with the standing water and resting areas the native Culex use.
